Key Aspects
& Our Aproach
1.
3.
Allegations of Abuse or Neglect:
Dependency cases typically begin when a report of child abuse, neglect, or abandonment is made to the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) or a similar agency. The agency conducts an investigation to assess the allegations and ensure the child's safety.
2.
DCF Custody:
When the Department of Children and Families (DCF) finds that a child is in danger while living with their parents or caregivers, they can petition the court to issue an order to remove the child from the parent or caregiver and be placed either in foster care or possibly with a family member that has an approved home study.
Dependency Hearings:
The court holds hearings to review the allegations in the petition, to conduct an arraignments and trials. During that time, if the child(ren) have been removed from the parent's or caregiver's custody, they may be returned to the parent or caregiver or remain in DCF Custody until the court determines it is safe for the child(ren) to return to their parents or caregivers.
4.
Permanency:
Dependency cases aim to achieve permanency for child(ren) with their parents or to place the children for adoption if they cannot safely return to their parents' care.
At KLC LAW P.A., we approach dependency cases with sensitivity, empathy, and a firm dedication to upholding parents' rights to raise their children without unwarranted interference or biased judgment from the State or Federal Government.
